Pre-Kindergarten Program

Comparison Checklist:

Dear Parents;

Step By Step invites you and your child to our K4 and Transitional Kindergarten (TK) classes for 2015-2016. I have attached a comparison list of the VPK requirements for the State of Florida with the standards that Step By Step will provide for your child. Although Step By Step is not a state supported VPK program, we have committed to instructing your child to meet state standards, and in some areas exceed the state requirements, as well as teaching God’s Word and His character. I invite you to look over the following information. Please note that our tuition rates include complete wrap-around care year-round and are competitive with in-area schools providing wrap-around care.

Preschool K4 and Transitional Kindergarten Mission Statement: Step By Step is a not-for-profit ministry of Gonzalez Baptist Church affecting the lives of children and their families by providing a safe, Christ Centered educational environment; introducing children to Jesus Christ and encouraging children to grow spiritually, socially, intellectually and physically.

Spiritual Goals: Our primary goal is reaching into the lives of children with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, introducing children to a life led by the Holy Spirit and teaching children to be excellent in all they do through their spiritual, social, intellectual and physical life. Step By Step CEC has been fully approved by Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) and all requirements have been met.

Academic Standards: The State of Florida is one of only a few states that have initiated Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten. Step By Step CEC, in accordance with Florida Standards, has developed a private, faith-based curriculum integrating the standards set by state requirements with needs of the whole child. Attached is a chart which compares Florida Core Requirements with Step By Step Standards and a copy of our Preschool and TK Report Cards. Complete Florida State Standards can be found at: flbt5.floridaearlylearning.com/

Teacher Preparedness: Our teachers are fully certified in VPK K4 School Readiness Standards. Each Lead Teacher has met or exceeded the VPK Professional Development requirements. Certifications and Professional Developments records are kept on file. Our teachers practice cooperative teaching between their classrooms. Ongoing student observation and assessments are implemented to insure individual student needs are addressed.

Classroom Preparedness: Our K4 and Transitional Kindergarten classes are fully staffed. Our classroom size is small with a teacher/student ratio (maximum) of 12/1. Classrooms are fully staffed; are equipped with all essential components for thorough teaching; allow for ample one-on-one teaching time; small groups for different skill levels and our K4 and TK programs run throughout the entire day rather than just a three hour time slot in the mornings. Children are thoroughly engaged in hands on learning activities from the time of their arrival built on skills necessary for kindergarten readiness. Students are engaged in well-rounded learning experiences. Music/Movement/Drama/Health & Nutrition and Virtual Field Trips are incorporated into the weekly schedule. Biblical principles with Scripture are taught daily and applied in classroom.

Parent/Teacher Relationship: Communication between teacher and parents is essential. Our teachers encourage our students to take home their accomplishments in the classroom and discuss these with their parents. Parents have testified that their children have come home excited and filled with the joy of learning. Teachers email or text reminders and classroom information pertaining to upcoming events; assessments; classroom needs and Bible verses the class is memorizing. Meetings are scheduled if necessary.
